Interested in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola?
The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola have helped many to fulfill their desire to grow in knowledge and love of Jesus and so to follow him in greater freedom. Ignatius planned that the complete Exercises (sometimes offered as a 30-day silent retreat) also be offered as a retreat in everyday life, extended over six months or more. In following this form, the retreatant meets with an individual director weekly and prays an hour and a half daily.
Doing the Exercises entails a serious commitment of both time and energy and is appropriate for those already cultivating a generous life of prayer and in regular spiritual direction. If you have an interest in doing the complete Spiritual Exercises in everyday life, our staff would be happy to help you to discern the Spirit’s call and will recommend a director when that is timely.
Please email Fr. Tom Carroll or call him at 650-917-4049 for more information.
Located in the Bay Area (Northern California), the Jesuit Retreat Center of Los Altos (also known as El Retiro San Iñigo) has operated since 1925. Situated on 38 wooded acres in the serene hills above Los Altos, our Retreat Center is easily accessible from major highways. The JRC’s tranquil surroundings enhance reflection.

Outdoor shrines and dramatic trails provide an opportunity for contemplation in a natural setting, and Rossi Chapel welcomes retreatants for silent meditation and for communal liturgical worship. Nourishing and abundant meals, served in a dining room with a panoramic view, complement well the rich spiritual nourishment.
The Jesuit Retreat Center Pastoral Staff and our Partners in mission share a ministry built on the rich Ignatian and Jesuit heritage and rooted in the Sacred Scriptures of our Christian and Catholic tradition.
We are blessed to offer here retreats silent and conversational, preached and individually-directed. This year we served nearly 7,300 guests, including well over 2,000 high school students. Our benefactors enabled us again to share the liberating gift of retreat in events for homeless women, homeless men, and Homeboys—young men moving out of gangs and into productive and peaceful work—and to welcome our first group of Homegirls. Read more in our Annual Appeal letter.
We offer a variety of group retreat programs for a broad range of women and men, individually-directed retreats for people seeking personal guidance on their journeys of prayer, and sacramental services complementing our retreat programs and enriching the retreatants whom the Spirit leads here.
We look forward to welcoming you here as you continue on your faith journey.
