
This Retreat Begins on Wednesday and ends on Sunday.

This individually directed retreat will be spent in silence and prayer. The retreatant will meet with one of the Jesuit directors once a day. You and the director will discuss how to pray, what methods to use in prayer and how you are responding, in prayer, to the God who is calling you.
The retreat aims at helping one to develop a deeper personal relationship with God and to grow in companionship with Christ.
Sr. Ursula Bomholt, OP
, during the past 12 years she worked as a member of the Leadership Team of her Congregation on Regional as well as International level. She has directed 30-day and 8-day retreats and facilitated weekend workshops on Midlife-Transitions and Dreams in various retreat centers in the US and South Africa. Sr. Ursula has an M.A. in counseling as well as in Applied Spirituality and a Diploma as a Jungian Analyst.
Bernie Bush, S.J., has his Ph.D. in Human Science (Psychology and Theology). He worked for 15 years as a therapist for emotionally troubled clergy and religious with the House of Affirmation in Montara, CA. He trained as a Spiritual Director in Toronto, Canada. He is the author of the book called "
Living in His Love: Essays on Prayer and Christian Living," and the Editor of
"Coping: Issues of Emotional Living in an Age of Stress for Clergy and Religious." He has also written articles in Spirituality, Social Justice, and Child Abuse Prevention.He joined El Retiro staff in 1993 after working in the Diocese of Norwich (Conn.), developing continuing education programs in social justice and the prevention of child abuse for the clergy.
Thomas Carroll, S.J.,spent sixteen years of his Jesuit ministry as a high school teacher, fifteen of those years at Loyola High School of Los Angeles. He enjoyed teaching concurrently in three departments, English, Theology, and Fine Arts, while also directing Loyola's choral and liturgical music programs and assisting in many musical theater productions. From 1999 till 2004, he was Director of the Jesuit Urban Center and the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Boston's South End, a ministry mainly serving gay and lesbian Catholics.
Joseph J. Fice, S.J., has worked in education for over 25 years, having taught at Jesuit High School in Sacramento, Loyola High School in Los Angeles, and Brophy Prep in Phoenix. His primary teaching area has been the Bible. Fr. Fice has spent many summers as a director of individually-directed retreats, including the 36-day Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola.
Peter Filice, S.J., a native of the Valley of the Heart's Delight, was born in San Jose, California. He entered the Society of Jesus upon graduation from Bellarmine College Preparatory. As a Jesuit he has served three Provincials in the capacity of Executive Assistant;:was President-Rector of Loyola High School, Los Angeles, and Minister of the Jesuit communities at the Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley, at the Jesuit Novitiate, Montecito, and at Santa Clara University. He comes to the Jesuit Retreat House after an assignment of twelve plus year on the Santa Clara campus.
Jim Hanley, S.J. is a popular retreat director, known for his retreats on Trust and Forgiveness. Before Fr. Jim came to the Retreat house, he taught Religion, was chaplain at various Jesuit High Schools, served as president of St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco, and was Vice-Provincial in charge of the formation of the Jesuits in the California Province. Since 1981, he has been a member of the Jesuit Retreat House Staff.
Sister Jean Sauntry,C. S.J.is a sister of Saint Joseph of Chambery, has an M.Div. degree from Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, MA. Jean has more than 25 years of experience in spiritual counseling and retreatministry. Jean also practices the Rosen Method of Bodywork, which she grounds in the Judeo-Christian tradition. She currently ministers in Oakland.
