"Through the experience of offering
families assistance, I have become powerfully aware of how Christ
is concerned with what goes on between men and women, between
husbands and wives, between parents and children, and between
brothers and sisters.
There are many things I could be doing
with my life, yet Christ keeps bringing me back to
how God desires that men and women love and serve each other
in families and that houses be homes full of love. It is a joy
to be here to serve those in need."
Robert Fabing, S.J., Director and Founder,
Jesuit Institute for
Family Life
The Jesuit Institute for Family Life supports the need within
families to value the presence of individual members and the
quality of intra-family relationships. Before effective human
relating can be realized, new skills are often needed and
old obstacles to growth must be understood and worked through.
Experienced, specially trained and licensed counselors and
therapists are available to individuals and families of all
faiths and walks of life. Religious and lay professionals
comprise the Institute staff.
Jesuit Institute for Family Life services include:
- marriage counseling
- family therapy
- child and adolescent counseling
- individual counseling
- group counseling
- weekends in spirituality for married couples
Robert Fabing, S.J., founded the Jesuit Institute for Family
Life (an independent entity, separate from The Jesuit Retreat
Center of Los Altos but located on the Retreat Center grounds)
in 1977, and, subsequently, founded nearly 30 other like programs
in locales from San Diego to Portland.
